If you are looking for a new tandem, you need to talk to Todd at da Vinci Designs.  You will have a bicycle purchasing experience unlike ones you’ve had in the past.  It was a dream to work with the team at da Vinci.  Component selection and all the impacts they might have were thoroughly explained.  Our bike was delivered ahead of schedule.

We had a tandem for about seven years from a popular manufacturer we all know of here in the USA prior to this one.  We have a lot of miles on a tandem.  This bike handles significantly better than our prior tandem, it is a dream.  My stoker commented how much better this frame handles.  One of our first rides had a fast descent down a bike path with a tight chicane.  The handling on the frame is as close to a single bike as you will experience on a tandem.  It is amazing!

We have a Tailwind e-tandem.  We went with a 1X drive train, Shimano 12 speed with hydraulic disc brakes, Gates carbon timing belt, and a Shimano EP-801 motor.  This is a drive train you will find on a lot of high-end mountain bikes.  Put a 1X on your tandem, you will thank me later.

With the Shimano E-Tube app you can tune the assist levels from the motor to be as nuanced or aggressive as you desire.  We have very nuanced assist levels.  We love how natural the ride feels.  Range anxiety, not on this bike.  We have not come close to out climbing and out distancing the motor.

No conversation about a da Vinci Tandem is complete without mention of Independent Coasting.  You are no longer tied together at the feet.  We had no idea how much we would love this design.  My stoker or I can take a break as needed without affecting the other rider.  It’s a game changer.
