Child Adaptors Have Never Been This Easy
The use of a child adapter could not be any easier. Due to the layout of the drivetrain you will not have to add an additional crankset and chainwheel, as is the case with traditional tandems. Simply clamp the adjustable bottom bracket shell (child adapter) to the rear seat tub, relocate the stoker cranks to the child adapter (use one-key-release crank bolts so you won't even need a crank extractor). Remove the stoker crossover chain (it will fall off when you remove the cranks). Run a new chain from the Intermediate shaft to the newly relocated cranks (you will need a chain tool for this). Finally, bolt on the crank arm shorteners if needed. Switching back and forth will take about five minutes with little practice.
